A Mother’s Day Liturgy

May 9, 2018 by Kate Wallace Nunneley

In recent years I have been struck by how feminine communion is At the Last Supper Jesus says, “This is my body broken for you” & “This is my blood shed for you” and all of it is to bring about new life. How similar to what a mother can say to the baby she just […]

The Birth of a Pastor

January 30, 2018 by Kate Wallace Nunneley

My call to pastoral ministry began during my first semester of seminary. I was taking 3 required courses – Greek Exegesis, Mentored Ministry, and Exegesis of Genesis. God used Greek class to show me I was really good at this stuff and ministry class to show me that I had a lot to learn […]

Women are in God’s Story – Do You See them?

December 7, 2016 by Kate Wallace Nunneley

“No one is on the periphery of God’s story”. That’s how the pastor at the church I attended last Sunday started his very well delivered message. And what a great message it was! He went on to explain that no matter who you are, God wants to use you to spread the light of Jesus […]

No Words: A Lament for Women

June 10, 2016 by Kate Wallace Nunneley

When I was looking at the worship life of the American church, I noticed that lament, and something like the book of Lamentations, was absent in so much of our worship life…Why is it that in our typical American churches we don’t want to engage in a very important spiritual practice that we find throughout […]

Why I Support Women in Church Leadership – in 30 Seconds

May 24, 2016 by Kate Wallace Nunneley

I was recently asked to summarize why I support women in church leadership in thirty seconds or less. This was my response… Deborah leading Israel (Judges 4) Huldah interpreting the law for the nation (2 Kings 22 & 2 Chronicles 34) Esther saving God’s people from genocide (Book of Esther) Miriam leading worship (Exodus 15) […]

5 Myths of Male Headship

December 16, 2015 by Kate Wallace Nunneley

I sat down across the table from her. We hadn’t seen each other in a while and I was excited to catch up. She was a youth pastor, one of those with an obvious call on her life for ministry. But as I looked into her eyes, I could see she was worn out. She […]

A Complementarian View of Justice?

March 10, 2014 by Kate Wallace Nunneley

Last week, I attended The Justice Conference that was held here in Los Angeles. I have to say up front that it was incredible. I truly appreciated The Justice Conference for presenting a great line up of speakers who, unlike those at many Christian conferences, didn’t all look exactly the same.  The gender, race, and […]

Questions About Egalitarian Dating

February 14, 2014 by Kate Wallace Nunneley

On The Junia Project, we talk a lot about the egalitarianism/complementarianism debate in various parts of life – Church, marriage, community, family – but there is another part of life that we haven’t really addressed… dating. So on this Valentines Day, as the only single member of The Junia Project admin team, I want to […]

Job: A Limited Understanding of Pain

January 29, 2014 by Kate Wallace Nunneley

I understand why the Church holds up the book of Job as the example of faith in the midst of pain and suffering and, until recently, I agreed with the conventional idea that ‘nobody knows pain like Job’.

The Women of Advent: Rahab

December 9, 2013 by Kate Wallace Nunneley

Rahab is commonly referred to as “Rahab the Prostitute”. This nickname limits our understanding of who she was. Rahab plays the savior to Israel by protecting the spies, declaring their victory, and enabling God’s plan to move forward; and she foreshadows the coming Savior, Jesus, who will be one of her own descendants.

Biblical Manhood…or Biblical Jesus?

October 9, 2013 by Kate Wallace Nunneley

A lot of things are being said these days about being a “biblical man”. It just seems like many people are using scripture to bully others into their view of what men and women should be. Let’s evaluate where our ideas of biblical manhood and womanhood are coming from. They don’t seem to be coming from Jesus.

Why I am a Feminist and an Egalitarian (And Why They Aren’t the Same Thing)

October 4, 2013 by Kate Wallace Nunneley

Feminism vs Egalitarianism I am both a feminist and a biblical egalitarian.  These two are not the same. In fact, I believe that they are very different.  I also believe that they are both needed. Feminism is “the advocacy of women’s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men.”  Considering the […]
