In 2011, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring 11 October as the International Day of the Girl, to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. This year the focus is “Innovating for Girls’ Education”. Many of you have asked us, “What can we do to further the cause of gender equity in the world?” Here are a few simple ways to fight for gender justice today:
1.) Make a donation to World Vision’s fund to educate girls
This is an amazing way to help. Education is the key to empowering women and girls and ending oppression.
2.) Sponsor a child
Many Christian organizations have child sponsorship programs where you can commit to financially supporting a child through their developmental years. Every organization is a bit different, but sponsorship helps with food, clothing, education, and housing. Sponsoring a girl is one of the best ways that everyday people can fight the abuses of gender injustice, including human trafficking. Here are some great sponsorship programs that The Junia Project staff have been involved with:
3.) Donate to end human trafficking
There are some great Christian organizations doing amazing work in the area of human trafficking. Click on the links below to find out how you can partner with them in their efforts.
4.) Spread the word about gender injustice
Work with your church or a few of your friends to host a screening of one of these amazing films in your area!
At The Junia Project we believe that God’s kingdom is one where all are equal at the foot of the cross. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:9-13 that we should pray for God’s will to be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Let us pray for gender justice in this world, and for the safety and livelihood of women and girls, for that is how it is in Heaven and how it will be in eternity.
