Last September Kate and I were invited to lunch by Dave Johnson, pastor of Neighborhood Christian Fellowship. At lunch Dave told us that the head of The Wesleyan Church, Dr. Jo Anne Lyon, was going to preach at his church in February and had offered to speak again that weekend if there was a need.
The genesis of Celebrating Women in Leadership
Dave shared his vision for leveraging Dr. Lyon’s offer in a way that would encourage churches to support women in leadership, and wanted to know if we would be interested in working together. We jumped at the chance!
This mini-conference and networking event will take place on February 14 from 8:30am -12noon at Azusa Pacific University. As word of Dave’s vision spread, several sponsors jumped in to help in significant ways, making it possible to have a regional event.
Stop and think about that.
One pastor’s vision – shared with like-minded people and backed up with resources and volunteers – created an opportunity for a couple hundred people to hear a world-class church leader, interact with a panel of ministry professionals, build their support network, and go home with some great resources. There will be spoken word, and worship by BrowderSister. And thanks to some amazing sponsors, the cost is just $15 when purchased in advance ($10 for students).
But we need your help!
Now that we have the capacity to invite more people we need to get the word out quickly. Would you join us in promoting Celebrating Women in Leadership on social media? Even if you live halfway across the world there is a good chance that someone who knows someone, etc. might see your and share.

Dave Johnson and Neighborhood Christian Fellowship, thanks for putting your advocacy into action.
I hope this story of one person’s commitment to equality will encourage you to pray and dream about what could happen in your own community. We are encouraged that there is so much support in our area for the egalitarian perspective – might it be the same where you are?
Thanks for helping us fill the room with people interested in strengthening partnerships of men and women working together for kingdom purposes!
If you’re in Southern California, we hope to see you at Celebrating Women in Leadership!
